The orator wearing an ermine lined drape, lecturing from the side of a podium moulded with a mythological scene, his feather quill and a scrolled paper inscribed in Greek rests on the top, raised on a marbelized rectangular base

Also see Halfpenny, p. 161, for a marked example from the Glaisher Collection, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. This figure has come through time with a double identified of either the orator Demosthenes or of St. Paul preaching at Athens. The moulded figure of Mercury on the podium alludes to either's Eloquence.
