See Pugh, E462, pl. 103, fig. 211. Jumbo was an African elephant obtained by the London Zoo in 1865. In 1881, he became dangerous and the Showman P.T. Barnum agreed to purchase him. The loss of Jumbo caused a great public outcry. In the end his stay in the Americas was short lived as Jumbo was killed charging a locomotive in Ontario in 1885.
