Modelled after the Warwick Vase, the handles as entined grape vines applied with grape cluster terminals, the neck painted continuously with Spencer House in Regent's Park and with a river coursing between a gorge, the socle and stand with parkland and rural landscapes, the interior of the mouth and the shoulder gilt with foliate scrolls edging and pendant from foliate diaper pattern, on gilt scroll feet with rocaille-moulded cartouche knees

Lot Essay

See John Twitchett, Derby Porcelain, Antique Collector's Club, London, 1980, fig. 377 for a plaque painted with the same view of Spencer House in the collection of the City Museum & Art Gallery, Derby. Around 1820, Earl Spencer commissioned pieces from Derby painted with views of his London house. The present vase is likely from this commission.
