The arms of Stephens in the center with another in pretence, all in colored enamels and gilt, gilt chain on the well and the rims with clusters of colorful floral sprigs

Lot Essay

D.S. Howard op. cit.. p. 574 suggests that the pretence arms, showing a bull before a gate, may be of Turnbull, and that the service was probably made for a descendant of John Stephens, attorney-general to Charles I
