Lot Essay

The sculpture gallery of Bellman, Ivey and Carter was opened on New Bond Street in 1885, the firm having previously been well known as manufacturers of plaster and cement goods. The gallery specialised in exhibiting reductions of works by prevalent British, Italian and French sculptors.
It is unclear why the name of 'Carter' is omitted from the inscription on the reverse of this bust,
