Comprising the first panels from the series Vues d'Amérique du Nord, 'The Bay of New York' was originally comprised of six panels after Milbert and designed by Jean-Julien Deltil. The series was first proposed to Zuber in 1833 with the first edition published in 1834 and subsequent re-issues in 1880 and then from 1923 to the present day (O. Nouvel-Kammerer, French Scenic Wallpaper: 1795-1865, Paris, 1991, cat. no. 80, pp. 310-311).
