A Japanese black lacquer suzuribako
Taisho period
with overhanging lid, decorated with coloured hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and nashiji with a meandering stream, kiku and rockwork, the interior fitted with inkstone and a white metal oval suiteki, lid inscribed -- 9¾in. (24.7cm.) long, (minor chips and dents). See Illustration.
