Quinta do Noval Nacional--Vintage 1963
As different as night and day: in 1989 a deep, intense-looking wine just striving to mature; immense expansive, fig-like nose of great depth; medium-sweet but very full-bodied. An enormous, spicy wine with great length. My highest mark at a tasting of 12 Nacional vintages in in 1994; glorious, uplifting, assertive. More recently at a Bacchus Society pre-dinner port tasting: robust, still youthful; tremendous bite and concentration. Last noted in 1998 - Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine
