Lot Essay

The picture is comparable to those done for the hall of Alma-Tadema's house, 17 Grove End Road, St John's Wood (see lots 274-7), but it would have been too tall for this project by about 8 inches (all the Alma-Tadema panels were approximately 31½ inches high). The inscription on the reverse also seems to rule out any connection.
