A kingfisher and songbirds by an overturned vase on a ledge

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie who has confirmed the attribution from photos (private communication, 3 September 2002) and notes this is likely an early work done by the artist during his years in The Hague (see E. Buijsen e.a., Haagse Schilders in de Gouden Eeuw, The Hague and Zwolle, 1998, pp. 168-173, no. 2, illustrated).
