A pair of Dutch Delft oviform tobacco-jars and brass covers
Circa 1760, blue J-S 12 marks, the covers probably later
Each painted in underglaze-blue and named POMPADOUR and STOMER above shepherdesses seated in landscapes with sheep within elaborate shaped quatrefoil diaper and dot-ornament cartouches with scrolling foliage and surmounted by flowering vases below everted rims, the stepped moulded covers with knop finials (shallow chip and flaking to one rim, chipping to other rim, slight flaking, cracks and wear to glaze of both)
