A pair of Paris (Schoelcher) gold-ground two-handled vases Circa 1820, iron-red script marks
Each of tapering flattened oval section with scroll, flowerhead and foliage handles, each painted with the Virgin with the Christ Child and St. John, the reverses emblematic of Europe and America, with a scantily-draped native American rescuing a nymph on a raft and with Columbus addressing a native American before a river-landscape with palm-trees, within richly gilt ciselé circular reeded cartouches tied with foliage on a matt gilt ground with ciselé flowerheads, the flared oval necks and spreading oval stems with bands of radiating palmettes, flowers and foliage, on rectangular gilt plinth bases with moulded gilt palmettes, flowerheads and foliage (the second with extended firing crack to rim and with wear to top rim)
