The hall-chair with griffin arm-supports and taper-columned legs in the antique or Grecian manner relates to an 'Etruscan' chair pattern in C. Percier and P.F-L. Fontaine's, Récueil de décorations interieures, 1801 (pl. V). A related Percier designed 'sphynx' chair was manufactured by the Parisian ébéniste Georges Jacob II (d. 1803) (D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIX Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 183).

A Danish walnut chair with similar griffin arm-supports was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 15 November 2001, lot 152 (£3,055).
