The serpentine toprail above a pierced vertical vase-shaped splat flanked by outscrolled arms, above a padded seat covered in close-nailed green leather, on square chamfered legs joined by stretchers, stamped twice with a 'C' below a ducal coronet, one ear replaced

The brand of a 'C' below a ducal coronet on this chair is for Field Marshall HRH the Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850-1942), third son of Queen Victoria. The same brand appeared on an Irish wine-cooler sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 30 November 2000, lot 84.
