Lot Essay

The table's antique-fluted tripod 'claw' has serpentined trusses, whose volutes scroll inwards in the manner of Messrs Ince and Mayhew's 'claw' pattern for a firescreen published in The Universal System of Household Furniture, 1762, pl. L.
