Maker's mark probably of Andreas Akerman, St. Petersburg, 1832; also struck with unknown assayer's mark NA
Shaped oblong, the sides all over decorated with floral niello, the hinged cover with three portraits and names underneath in Russian text, inside gilding, marked inside box

The three portraits are from the Grand Duke Nicholas Pavlovich(future Nicholas I); Grand Duke Alexander Nicholaievich (his son- the future Alexander II); and the wife of the former: Grand Duchess Alexandra Feodorovna.
The portrait of Grand Duke Nicholas Pavlovich is after George Dawe (see: Semenchenkov sale, London, 22 October 1987, lot 626, illustrated).
