The firm of Wilcox and Co., producers of "Burmantofts Faience" Art Pottery and Architectural Ceramics amalgamated with five other Yorkshire firms in 1889 to become the Leeds Fire Clay Company Ltd., becoming the largest clay working company in the country. The 'Lefco Ware' was introduced for Garden Ornaments in 1912 and was a variation on their 'Marmo Faience', used for architectural wares and facings.
