Lot Essay

Pierre Tourgueneff (1854-1912)
Tourgeneff was born in Paris and studied the Florentine style of bronze sculpture under Fremiet in 1889. He won the coveted Grand Prize at the Paris Universal Exposition. Among his acclaimed works are the marble Daughter of Eve and Monument of painter Jalabert at Nimes, and his equestrian statue, Pastour, in the Steppe.
