The engine-turned and beaded bobeche above scones cast as fruiting baskets, supported by sea-horse monopodiae on triform bases with leaf capped hoof feet, the lead-filled undersides stamped CHENEY LONDON, PUBLISHED DECR.1809.

COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
Jonathan Bourne and Vanessa Brett, Lighting in the Domestic Interior, Renaissance to Art Nouveau, Sotheby's Published 1991.
A candlestick, thought to be one of the present pair, is illustrated on page 149, fig.505, and bears similar resemblance to a design illustrated as item 149 in an early 19th century catalogue of G.A.Glick.
