2o (284 x 178 mm). 42 engraved plates including 2 folding plates (with 60 numbered illustrations) and two engraved illustrations in text, one with overlay. (Title and last plate laid down, folding plates reinforced on verso, some light dampstaining.) Late 19th-century quarter cloth and marbled boards.
FIRST EDITION. Moxon states in the preface that nothing has been written on Perspective in English except the translation of Serlio, in which, he says "the words are translated but not the science." He adds that the designs for the present work were collected from Duerer, Niceron, Jean Cofin, Descargues and Hondius. Moxon was a hydrographer, mathematician and bookseller. He published books on navigation, mathematics, architecture, astronomy and geography. Wing M-3018.
