Second edition, first published 1594. The revised edition of 1653 appeared under two imprints, one of Bernard, the other of Elizabeth Alsop, and with the addition of a "Rare and excellent discourse of minerals" by Arnold de Boate. "This compendium of 150 recipes, experiments and inventions was one of Platt's most popular works" (Hoover). It includes: "Sweet and delicate dentrifices, or rubbers for the teeth"; "how to brew good and wholesome beer without any hops at all" and "how to make an egg stand alone without any help."
