A Napoleon III carved-ivory casket
Possibly Dieppe, Circa 1860
Of rectangular shape, carved overall with classical ornamentation, the rectangular cover centred by a plaque depicting Venus in her chariot, within a scrolling foliate border and roundels to the corners, opening to reveal a mahogany lined interior with a removable tray, the sides with similar plaques, carved with Bacchic putti with a lion and a ram, flanked to the sides by turned handles, on circular tapering feet
13¾ in. (35 cm.) high; 18½ in. (47 cm.) wide; 11 in. (28 cm.) deep
