Cast after a model by Mathurin Moreau, Circa 1880
Comprising a clock and a pair of six-light candelabra; the clock surmounted by a young female figure resting on a column, on an oval base, inscribed to the side Moreau. Math. Scpt., on a stepped, spreading base, centred to the front by a circular dial, flanked to the sides by scenes depicting cherubs playing with dolphins, on four scrolling acanthus and paw feet; the candelabra en suite
The clock: 28 in. (71 cm.) high; 20 in. (51 cm.) wide; 11 in. (28 cm.) deep;

Lot Essay

Born in 1822, Mathurin Moreau (d.1912) studied under his father Jean Baptiste Moreau. He exhibited at the Salon, winning a medal in 1877 and another at the 1900 Paris Great Exhibition. He specialised in allegorical and classical groups, statuettes of historic personalities and busts of his contemporaries.
