Lot Essay

The design for the present commode is based on the original model executed by Jean-Henri Riesener in 1775 and supplied to Louis XVI as a replacement for the sumptuous commode by Gaudreaux and Caffieri (supplied in 1739) in the Chambre du Roi at Versailles. The original commode is now in the Musée Condé at château de Chantilly.
