Surmounted by a circular top within a gilt suround, supported by eight columns, each headed by a circular handle, joined by a pierced shaped stretcher, on tapering circular feet and four castors

Lot Essay

This elegant mahogany gueridon exemplifies the fashionable goût anglais of the 1770s and '80s, which was promoted by Madame de Pompadour's brother, the Marquis de Marigny, who greatly admired the simple forms and plain beauty of English mahogany furniture.
