Provenance
Gwydir Castle, Llanrwst, North Wales
The current vendor purchased this chair in 1983 from a Chester antique dealer, whose receipt states that the chair was bought at an auction of some of the contents of this castle. One early sale was in 1921, and a second sale in 1981, which is the more likely source of this chair. Gwydir Castle itself is currently undergoing an extensive restoration and conservation programme.
