Further details
This lot is sold with two apprenticeship indentures: for the vendor's father and grandfather, dated 10th June 1910 and 5th June 1880 respectively. The vendor's father was apprenticed to Christy & Co, the hatmakers; his grandfather to Frederick Woodhams (also hatmakers).
These miniature hats were made by the vendor's father for his son as a small child in the early 1930s. It seems possible that he was inspired by Queen Mary's dolls house which was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and exhibited at the British Empire Exhibition of 1924 to popular acclaim. The house was built to 1/12th scale and involved most of the great tradesmen and artists of the day.
