Details
Château Lynch-Bages--Vintage 1953
Pauillac, 5me cru classé
Levels: seven top, two upper/top, two upper and one mid/upper shoulder; all labels damaged and mostly missing; two vintages only legible; ten believed 1953; one capsule cut
Am enormously populat wine. Again to put that period in perspective: Harry Waugh (in 1954) 'Delicious, beautifully full flavour. A wine to gamble on. Would like at least 40 hogsheads at 30 pounds. Thirty pounds a barique of 25 dozen bottles so just over 1 pound per dozen ex-cellars. It was fully mature in 1972, my last note before the most recent: a lovely mellow looking wine with an immediately fragrant bouquet. Ideal weight, sweetness and balance. Perfection. Last noted in May 1994 at David Carter's who had bought the wine when he was still at University in the late 1950's. How wise. How patient ***** MB Vintage Wine
