The history of the Clos des Lambrays dates back to 1365. In this sale we have six extraordinarily rare examples of the vineyard, dating from 1953 back to 1934. During these years, the property was owned by the Rodier hrothers (one of whom co-founded the Confririe des Chevaliers du Tastevin) and then the redoubtable Mme Renie Cosson. Many of the vines were planted "in a crowd" - as the saying went - rather than in rows, still on their original pre-phylloxera roots. Yields were low, with fermentation and tending methods being held in a time-warp. These are examples of old-fashioned Burgundy at its best, the 1934 being justly famous.
