A beautiful gradation of color from a plummy, ruby core to a burnt orange rim. The magnificent aroma of mature Pinot, a clean nose without a trace of oxidisation. Compôte of strawberries on the nose with a background of undergrowth and morel mushrooms. The palate is alive with a weighty, ripe mouthfeel and a rhubarb flavour. Warm and enticing, a hot vintage. After 30 mins in the glass - chocolate raisins, sweeter now than at first impression - but still so wonderfully balanced. A long, long finish. Quite possible one of the greatest Burgundies ever made - one should certainly compare with the '37 also in this cellar. RB.
