Provenance: pasted to the foot of the frontispiece portrait is an autograph fragment inscribed: "Sealed & delivered in the presence of us. H. Chauncy." An early note beside it reads: "Autograph of Sir H. Chauncy taken from an old Deed by George Earl of Essex." Brunet I, 1827: "Un des ouvrages les plus rares de ceux qui traitent de la topographie de l' Angleterre ..."; Lowndes 430: "... this much esteemed county history ..."; Upcott 333; Wing C3741. Contains the three plates which Lowndes asserts are "usually wanting."
