Photogravure frontispiece in volume I, titles printed in red and black, folding maps and plans, some printed in colours, half tone and wood-engraved illustrations, some full-page. Contemporary red crushed morocco gilt by Birdsall and Son of Northampton, spines gilt in compartments, gilt monogram "J.T.S." in blue, green and brown morocco inlays on upper covers, top edges gilt, others uncut (extremities very lightly rubbed).
