2° (311 x 211mm). Collation: \Kp\k6 i6 a8 b-o6 p4 A8 B-R6 Aa8 Bb-Dd6 Ee6(3+1) Ff-Zz6 Aaa-Nnn6. Full-page woodcut portrait of Maximilian I on \Kp\k2r, and 236 large woodcut illustrations. (First leaf defective and mounted on recto with window for title, \Kp\k2 restored at lower margin and wormed with slight loss, \Kp\k3-4 also slightly wormed, many other leaves with restoration to margins, particularly in the early quires, some marginal soiling, b4v affected by slight paper fault, Dd3 with tear through text on verso repaired on lower blank margin of recto.) Contemporary German pigskin, covers with panel of fillets tooled with rosettes and fleurons in blind, metal corner bosses, double clasp, red edges (spine restored, one clasp defective, recased with new endpapers, some staining and slight chipping).

FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN, dedicated to Emperor Maximilian and magnificently illustrated. The preface to part I and II is by Schöfferlin and to Part III by Wittich. Regarded by Muther as the finest illustrated book printed in Mainz in the 16th-century.
