A Lacquer Writing Box (Suzuribako)

Of rectangular shape and decorated on the cover with a moonlit forest scene, the trees in iro-e hiramaki-e and togidashi on a glossy black ground with the large moon rendered in gimpun, the surface of the ground and some of the tree trunks embellished with kirigane and aogai, the sides of the cover sprinkled with sparse nashiji, the underside of the cover lacquered in gold, black and silver takamaki-e, aogai, kirigane and gold foil with birds perched in trees and insects among rocks beside a stream, the water designed in silver and gold togidashi and the rest of the underside of the cover nashiji, the removable inner tray in the interior of the box lacquered with young pine trees and scattered maple leaves on craggy rocks in gold takamaki-e, kirigane and aogai on a nashiji ground, the lower section of the box lacquered to match, fitted with a rectangular inkstone with fundame edges and a copper water dropper cast as a cluster of hollyhock leaves and set into a copper saucer, the bottom of the box nashiji; rims metal
