Meiji period (late 19th century), sealed under removable interior tray Homin [Uematsu Homin (1845-1902)]
The rectangular box lacquered in gold and silver togidashi on a roiro ground with a circular panel of the Chinese poet Su Shi on his mule, the bevelled edges decorated with kirigane evenly aligned in rows, the underside of the cover decorated with a stream running through a bamboo grove, the removable tray decorated to match and fitted with an oval inkstone with fundame edges and a gilt-metal waterdropper cast as a boulder with hirame highlights, underside of the tray in nashiji and sealed Homin in gold lacquer, the interior of the lower box with a continuation of the stream and bamboo forest, rims embellished with kirigane, base nashiji
