A PAIR OF SERPENTINE AND HUAMU-INSET HUANGHUALI OFFICIAL'S HAT ARMCHAIRS, SICHUTOU GUANMAOYI
16th/17th century
Of generous proportions, each with a vigorously shaped yokeback toprail with everted ends supported on corner posts which continue through to the back legs, the C-shaped rectangular back splat divided into three sections, the uppermost with a pale green serpentine panel, centered by a panel of finely figured burlwood (huamu), above a beaded shaped apron, the entire splat flanked by curvilinear beaded flanges, the elongated S-shaped arms supported by curved stiles and posts, which continue through the soft mat seat to form the front legs joined by beaded aprons and a shaped footrest with a plain apron
