**AN IVORY-INSET AND LACQUERED HARDWOOD FLOOR SCREEN, ZUOPINGFENG
18th/19th century
The tall frame well-carved in high relief with peony, scrolling foliage, and auspicious bats within a triple beaded frame, enclosing two inset panels inlaid with ivory, the larger upper panel with a scene of scholars gathered outside a garden in a country villa, one writing calligraphy on a stone table, with attendants bringing books, and a small boy fishing from the bank, the smaller panel below with a scene of two scholars and a gentlewoman leaving a garden gate by a bridge; raised on and removable from a hardwood stand formed by two standing spandrels with strong asymmetrical carving set into a similar base
