Lot Essay

This shallow, barb-rimmed dish is one of the more elegant forms associated with early porcelain. Compare a very similar dish sold in these rooms, Falk Collection I, Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, 20 September 2001, lot 44. See, also, a similar pair in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, illustrated by R. D. Jacobsen, Appreciating China: Gifts from Ruth and Bruce Dayton, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 2002, p. 154, no. 84. Dishes of this barbed petal shape are related to examples in silver such as the dish illustrated in Tang dai jinyin qi (Gold and Silver of the Tang Dynasty), Zhenjiang Municipal Museum and Shaanxi Provincial Museum, 1985, no. 198.
