A SUPERB FANG MALE RELIQUARY FIGURE
Eyema byeri, Northern Fang, Ntoumou
With carved teeth in the slightly parted lips, crescent eyes in relief, squared jutting jaw, the coiffure with central ridge falling down the nape of the neck, pierced through the top of the coiffure and with circular depression at the center, the muscular arms carved in relief with a vessel held against the chest, a pierced rectangular hole below each shoulder, pectoral muscles carved in shallow relief, a rectangular panel of checkerboard ornament heightened with white pigment above the cylindrical navel, an incised cross-hatched triangular panel below, incised spine, three triple arcs incised on the right lower back, the muscular legs with angled stylized feet, projection below the buttocks, dark oily patina, on Inagaki base
