This elegant silver table relates to a group of tables by the Royal cabinet-maker John Cobb, which display Vitruvian scrolled friezes and more importantly very similarly fashioned pierced looped brackets to the tops of the legs. The connection to Cobb is confirmed by the serving table in this group, currently at Temple Newsam House, Leeds which was supplied to Sir George Strickland at Boynton Hall, Yorkshire, illustrated in C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, Leeds, 1978, no.337, pp. 278-280. A near identical serving table was sold Christie's London, 6 July 2000, lot 137, while a related silver table was sold in these Rooms, Property from The Estate of Dorris Merrill Magowan, 22 May 2002, lot 20.
