AN IBERIAN SCARLET TORTOISESHELL ROSEWOOD AND EBONISED GILT METAL MOUNTED CABINET ON ASSOCIATED EARLY 18TH CENTURY BASE
The cabinet 17th/early 18th century
The cabinet of breakfront outline, the cushion frieze applied with pierced foliate gilt metal and scallop shell mounts, with a central cupboard fitted with six drawers and enclosed by architectural absidal door centred by a gilt metal figure of Hermes, with a conforming drawer above and below flanked by eight drawers with ebonised ripple mouldings, the ebonised and parcel gilt base with shaped apron with foliate scroll ornament, on cabriole legs with palmette and trailing cabochon carved knees joined by scroll X-stretchers with finial and hoof feet
