Lot Essay

Micromosaic plaques of a similar comparable nature and size, are sometimes found set in gold and enamel snuffboxes and
other pocket cases. The 19th century tourist or dealer in Rome was able to readily acquire micromosaic works, appealing to their visions of Arcadia, based on the representations orginating from ths school of Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) and Claude Lorraine (1600-82). Their master works were widely copied from the late 18th and 19th centuries.
