THOMPSON, Jim. (1906-1977). Now and on Earth. New York: Modern Age, [1942.] 85 large galley sheets, printed on proofing paper on rectos only (folded twice, some chipping to edges, last sheets with some tears and staining). Housed in a red cloth folding case.
Provenance: Dashiell Hammett (found among his personal papers, with letters from Josephine Hammett Marshall, daughter of Dashiell Hammett and Julie Marshall Rivett, granddaughter of Dashiell Hammett attesting the provenance).
ORIGINAL GALLEY PROOFS of Jim Thompson's rare first book, found among Dashiell Hammett's person papers. The proof's wear probably send to Hammett to be reviewed "probably with hopes of receiving a quote for use as a jacket blurb" (Josephine Hammett Marshall). Thompson's style is often compared with Dashiell Hammett's.
