Lot Essay
A pair of similar tables, fitted with tray-tops, was amongst the lacquer furniture acquired by Sir Robert Child, who was appointed a Director of the East India Company in 1709. One of these, described as 'An India Tea table', was later displayed at Osterley Park, Middlesex in a Chinese-papered room, known as the 'Blue India Paper Dressing Room' and is now shown in the Gallery.
