Late 18th early 19th Century, the legs later
Decorated overall with foliate scrolls, the rectangular top decorated with four fans, above a moulded frieze and pierced geometric apron, on hipped legs with scrolled feet, with paper label on the underside inscribed in ink '1793', restorations and redecorated
29 in. (73.5 cm.) high; 36½ in. (93 cm.) wide; 22¾ in. (58 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

A pair of similar tables, fitted with tray-tops, was amongst the lacquer furniture acquired by Sir Robert Child, who was appointed a Director of the East India Company in 1709. One of these, described as 'An India Tea table', was later displayed at Osterley Park, Middlesex in a Chinese-papered room, known as the 'Blue India Paper Dressing Room' and is now shown in the Gallery. (M. Tomlin, 'The 1782 Inventory of Osterley Park', Furniture History, 1986, p. 114).
