The tapered barrel of the microscope is threaded to screw into the end of a limb mounted atop the main pillar of the instrument. The limb is adjustable via rack and pinion. The eared stage is also adjustable via rack and pinion (loose) up and down the main pillar and incorporates a simple slide holder. The plano-concave substage mirror is mounted via a sliding sleeve. The pillar is attached via a compass joint to a tapering column with three folding, splayed feet.

The accessories fit into shaped compartments in the case and include: three numbered objectives; two further objectives, one with a brass screw cap; two lieberkuhn objectives; stage-mounted bull's-eye condensor and forceps; brass tweezers and two ivory-handled probes; a brass live box; and a black/white ivory disc. There are seven numbered ivory sliders each with four cells and a hand-written list of contents, and two similar lignum vitae sliders. Also included are an ivory canister containing cell covers and retaining rings, a lignum vitae handled screwdriver and the butterfly-shaped adjustment tool for the main compass joint. There are three small empty spaces in the fitted case, which is made of mahogany and veneered in rosewood. The fittings are lined with dark blue velvet and there is a brass plaque on the lid and a brass shield-shaped eschuteon and key.
