A finely engineered exhibition standard model of a cross compound Corliss valve jet condensing mill engine,
built by D.G. Sutcliffe with brass-bound blued-steel clad cylinders 1in. and 1½in. bores x 2¼in. stroke, Dobson trip gear, the HP with main stop valve, piston rod tailshaft and slipper type guide, the LP with lagged transfer pipe, the piston rod tailshaft driving the airpump. Both cylinders have dummy pressure lubrication systems and draincocks, studded stuffing boxes, slipper type crosshead guides, tapered connecting rods with split bolted brasses, lubricators and main bearing oil boxes pipes and driven dummy pumps. Other details include centrally mounted spoked flywheel built up in two halves with barring ring and fourteen rope grooves, multi rope driven Hartnell governor and linkage, centrally mounted vacuum/pressure gauge stand, crank and belt guards and much other fine detailing, finished in black and polished brightwork and mounted on a black and white tiled base with wooden surround -- 28 x 82.5cm. (11 x 32¾in.)
