The two long edges of the rule are each bevelled in opposite directions. The signature appears at the bottom of the side with scales for shot diameters, brass mortars, brass howitzers, powder for proof and shells, iron mortars, burst range, shot for proof and numerous others, some for land and at sea. The other side has scales for the diameter of guns and carronades, and sets of scales for brass guns, iron guns and carronades, and two notes reading In the Table of Brass Guns G.D. signifies Gen.lDesaguliers and To find the N.oof Shot in a square or oblong Pile from 3 times the longest side subt.tthe short.t1 & x by the short.tthat Product x by the short.t+1 & Divided by 6=the No in the Pile
