A GOLD LONGCHAIN NECKLACE
MAGNIFICENT JEWELS FROM THE ESTATE OF LILLIAN GOLDMAN Lillian Schuman Goldman was born on January 17th, 1922 in New York City, and at the age of 19, married Sol Goldman, the legendary real estate magnate. Sol Goldman had bought his first building at the age of 17, and at the encouragement of Lillian, he left the family grocery business in Brooklyn to concentrate on what was to become an empire. The Goldman family has been amongst the biggest individual real estate owners in New York City. Their investments range from residential buildings to office and retail developments. Lillian Goldman had numerous philanthropic interests. Her generosity ranged widely and included the New York Restoration Project, the New York Botanical Garden, the 92nd Street Y and a sincere and committed support to the research and treatment of Breast Cancer. Other pioneering organizations such as the UJA Federation of New York, the Alzheimer's Association, the Lighthouse Project, St Francis Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital and the Parkinson's Disease Foundation were also beneficiaries of her Charitable Trust. One of her most significant gifts was the renovated and expanded law library at Yale now known as The Lillian Goldman Law Library. Located within the heart of the Yale Law School complex, it provides the Law School community with ready access to one of the world's finest collections of printed legal materials. On Mrs. Goldman's 80th birthday, Bette Midler, a family friend, was invited to entertain family and friends at an intimate party and her rendition of Happy Birthday to "Diamond Lil" will be long remembered.
