A shell and scroll reeded tablespoon, twisted and broken in two parts, the handle engraved 'tourné par le Prince Charles le 24 Janvier 1837', the bowl engraved 'Vermächtniss F. Kais. H. d. Grossf. Maria Nikol. Herzogin v. Leuchtenb. 1876', marked on handle, in fitted case

Lot Essay

As the inscriptions imply, the spoon was twisted by Prince Karl of Prussia in 1837 and was subsequently bequested to Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna, Duchess of Leuchtenberg, by the Prince in 1876.
Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna was the daughter of the Emperor Nicholas I.
