The present picture, and others by the same hand, are traditionally regarded as by Jan van Kessel II. However, Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD believes the group may be by an as yet unidentified hand working in the studio of Jan van Kessel I, possibly to be identified as Ferdinand van Kessel (1648-after 1696).
